Well what happened since that last post? Long story short, I couldn’t find much time to write when we moved to NY…too much to do. On top of that, we moved again.
To the Caribbean. Really.
To be specific, we are on an island off the coast of Belize called Ambergris Caye, and we’ve been here since May. So I’m without an oven again. Right now Im thinking that we will order another pizza party oven, mainly because oven building materials are pretty much nonexistent here. Sure I can get them here, but it’ll cost 4x what a PP oven shipped from Italy will cost.
What about wood? Fortunately, there are several cabinet shops on-island that have tons of untreated mahogany scrap. So I’m going to talk with some of them once I get an oven here.
I’m going to get this thing going again. Wood fired ovens have never been as popular worldwide as they are right now and yet there’s so much to talk about. I have lots of posts planned, I just need to get them done. We even have a bunch of stuff we made in my SC masonry oven that was made photographed… beyond pizza!
Wood fired cooking is popular on the island, but mostly open pit. I’ll post some of that in my forum, but I’ll feature some of the great food the locals make too. In addition, I’d love to hear about places all of you have tried and recommend…good or bad. There’s a new section in the forum for that! Click the link below. Second room just below pizza!
Time to get to work. Let’s do this!
