Today I got to spend some time cleaning more bricks and got shut down by a big storm after about an hour. This part should be done tomorrow and then I’ll get started on figuring the size of the voussoirs for the rib arches. Once I am happy with that I’ll start cutting the granite I brought down from MA. They were leftovers from a project including large reclaimed granite pieces for steps. There is a future post that has been drafted which will discuss this job, but for now here are a couple finished pics….
The new dilemma is how to cut the pieces for the arch. I want to avoid cutting them up with a saw. I kind of feel like it would take away from the spirit of this build. But by saw cutting the shapes, I will gain some time I need….even though this isn’t a race, my time to build is limited. If I do end up using the saw, the edges would get bush hammered to soften up those sharp lines anyway so maybe it wouldn’t be much faster….I do pretty good with a chisel.
Whatever I do, that will be probably be the next post. Stay tuned…………..
